Last week at the 2nd Esri International Aviation Summit in Brussels a presentation about spatial data distribution was given by Borja Munoz and Luis Gomez. Their project was designed to integrate a number of sources of spatial data, presenting the information in graphic form to airport decision-makers.
Some of their applications involve 3D. Often obstruction analysis is performed for airports to enable the aviation staff and flights to understand where new obstructions near the airport are located.
This helps to avoid them, while providing flights with alternative planning rules for safe take-offs and landings.
Working for Idom company, Munoz and Gomez also include profiles of the 3D analysis which allows viewers to see the side-view of these obstructions as well.
