Two young adults from Hereford are on their way to their chosen careers after starting on an ‘earn-and-learn’ five year apprenticeship with Balfour Beatty Living Places. Ben Roger and Will Rice, both 18, are the first Commercial Apprentice quantity surveyors to combine work at Rotherwas, Hereford and study at the University of the West of England. In recent months Balfour Beatty Living Places has recruited 13 young people through work experience placements and graduate-training schemes including five apprentices. Dr Alasdair MacDonald, Balfour Beatty Living Places Contract Director, said: “We encourage and support young people to work in the industry through a variety of means, including extensive apprenticeship programmes, sponsoring students and recruiting graduates.
