Encouraged by the success in building over 47,000 km of rural roads till the end of 2016-17, according to preliminary estimates, the Centre now hopes to construct 59,000 km of roads in rural areas in 2017-18 at a rate of 150 km a day. Though officially it has pegged a target of building around 55,370 km in 2017-18, officials said they were confident of building much more than that.
