The district government of Cologne, department 07 GEOBasis.nrw (formerly Landesvermessungsamt NRW) has made the over 6 million buildings of the 3D city model NRW available in the level of detail level 1 (LOD1) to the project GDI-3D.de. The goal is to evaluate the scalability and performance on the basis of the interopable OGC WebServices of the GDI-3D - including an optional encryption during data transfer.
The building data were loaded as CityGML by the WFS, optimized for display and loaded into the internal 3D geodatabase for the Web 3D Service (W3DS). This now streams the data to the 3D client XNavigator. Here the data can be viewed and analyzed as in Heidelberg-3D using the other WebServices integrated there (eg with WPS, OpenLS RS, SOS etc.). The SRTM data set is currently being used as a terrain model. In addition, additional layers with Points of Interests were integrated as 3D point symbols or labels. Read More
